Vijay Akkapeddi, MD, FACEP, FAAEM, joined Emergency Medical Associates of New Jersey in 2007. Dr. Akkapeddi is the Medical Director of the Emergency Department at Christ Hospital, Jersey City, NJ. He is a professional society member of the American College of Emergency Physicians, American Academy of Emergency Medicine, Medical Society of the State of New York, American Academy of Emergency Medicine for India, American Academy of Physicians of Indian Origin, New York State Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians, and the Osmania University Medical Graduates Association. Dr. Akkapeddi received his undergraduate degree at Osmania University, Hyderabad, India and his medical degree from Gandhi Medical College, Osmania University, Hyderabad, India. He completed his first residency in General Surgery at Harlem Hospital, New York, NY and his second residency in Emergency Medicine at Lincoln Health and Mental Health Center. Michael Bessette, MD, FACEP, joined Emergency Medical Associates in 2008, where he is the Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Jersey City Medical Center. Prior to joining Emergency Medical Associates, Dr. Bessette was the Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Bayonne Medical Center. He is actively involved in Hudson County, where he volunteers as the Medical Director for the Hudson County Rapid Deployment Force and the Bayonne Special Operations Team. Dr. Bessette completed his bachelors degree at the University of California, San Diego, and his doctorate at the Sackler School of Medicine at the University of Tel Aviv in Israel. He completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center and Elmhurst Hospital in New York. He has served as an Assistant Professor for Mount Sinai Medical School. Dr. Bessette is a diplomat of the American Board of Emergency Medicine, a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians, and a professional society member of the New Jersey Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians. bessettem@emamd.com
William Dalsey, MD, MBA, FACEP, joined Emergency Medical Associates of New Jersey in 2000. Dr. Dalsey previously served as a member of EMA’s Board of Directors. He is the Medical Director of the Emergency Department at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood, New Jersey, and the Interim Medical Director of the Emergency Department at St. Vincent's Hospital, New York, New York. He is a professional society member of American Medical Association, Society of Academic Emergency Medicine, the New Jersey Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians, Council of Residency Directors, National Association of EMS Physicians, Consortium for Spinal Cord Medicine, and the National Committee for Cardiac Care. Dr. Dalsey received his undergraduate degree at Muhlenberg College, Allentown, Pennsylvania, and his medical degree from Medical College of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, Ohio. Robert Fine, MD, FACEP, joined Emergency Medical Associates of New Jersey in 2002. Dr. Fine previously served as a member of EMA’s Board of Directors and former Secretary to the Board. He is the Medical Director of the Emergency Department at Capital Health Systems, Mercer & Fuld Campuses, Trenton, New Jersey. He is a professional society member of the New Jersey Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians. Dr. Fine received his undergraduate degree at University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Lankenau Hospital, Wynnewood, Pennsylvania. Christopher Freer, DO, FACEP joined Emergency Medical Associates of New Jersey in 1998. Dr. Freer is the Chairman of the Emergency Department at St Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston, NJ. He is a professional society member of the New Jersey Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians and the American Academy of Emergency Physicians. Dr. Freer received his undergraduate degree at University of Delaware, and his medical degree from UMDNJ, School of Osteopathic Medicine, Stratford, NJ. He completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, MD, where he was the Chief Resident. John Fontanetta, MD, FACEP, joined EMA in 1998. Dr. Fontanetta is Chair of the Emergency Department at Clara Maass Medical Center in Belleville, New Jersey. He is a professional society member of the New Jersey Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians and American Medical Association. He was awarded the Presidential Scholar for Phi Beta Kappa, Alpha Honor Society. He graduated Summa Cum Laude at Fordham University in Bronx, New York and received his medical degree at Cornell University Medical College in New York, New York. Dr. Fontanetta completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and fellowship in Pulmonary Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx Municipal Hospital Center in Bronx, New York. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Emergency Medicine, Diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine, Diplomat of Subspecialty Pulmonary Medicine, and board eligible in Critical Care Medicine.   Catherine Hanlon, MD, FACEP joined Emergency Medical Associates of New Jersey in 1997. Dr. Hanlon is the Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, New Jersey. Dr. Hanlon received her undergraduate degree at Lafayette College and her medical degree from Hahnemann Medical School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She went on active service with the United States Air Force as a Flight Surgeon, flying rescue with the 63rd Jolly Greens in Europe. After her return she completed her residency at Monmouth Medical Center becoming double boarded in Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine. She has been active in teaching as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine. She has been the physician for wilderness and expedition medicine groups, and is also a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist. She has practiced for 18 years and has worked at Capital Health Systems in Trenton, New Jersey, Clara Maass Medical Center in Belleville, New Jersey and Centrastate Hospitals in New Jersey. Ian Leber, MD, FACEP joined Emergency Medical Associates of New Jersey in 2002. Dr. Leber is a member of EMA’s Board of Directors and the Chair of the Policy Committee. He is the Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel, New Jersey. He is a professional society member of the New Jersey Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians and the National Association of EMS Physicians. Mark Mandell, MD, FACEP, joined Emergency Medical Associates of New Jersey in 1981. Dr. Mandell is a member of EMA’s Board of Directors and is the current Chair of the Audit Committee. He is the Medical Director of the Emergency Department at Morristown Memorial Hospital, Morristown, New Jersey. He is a professional society member of the New Jersey Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians, Society for Academic Emergency Medicine, American Academy of Emergency Medicine, American Public Health Association, Injury Control Section APHA, Physicians for a Violence-Free Society. Dr. Mandell received his undergraduate degree at Columbia College, New York, New York and his medical degree from University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, Cincinnati, Ohio. He completed his first residency in Internal Medicine at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota and his second residency in Emergency Medicine at Royal Victoria Hospital/McGill University, Montreal, Quebec. Oscar Marcilla, MD, FACEP joined Emergency Medical Association of New York in 2005. Dr. Marcilla is the Medical Director of the Emergency Department at Nyack Hospital, Nyack NY. He is a professional society member of the New York Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians, New York American Academy of Emergency Physicians, and Delaware Valley American Academy of Emergency Physicians, which encompasses New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Dr. Marcilla received his undergraduate degree at Long Island University, Brooklyn, NY and his medical degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine, NY. He completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Jacobi Hospital, Bronx, NY.   Dennis McGill, MD, FACEP joined Emergency Medical Associates of New Jersey in 1991.  Dr. McGill is the Medical Director of the Emergency Department at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville, New Jersey. He is the current President of the New Jersey Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians.  Dr. McGill received his undergraduate degree at Rutgers College in New Brunswick, New Jersey and his medical degree from New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York.  He completed his first 2 years of residency in General Surgery at Rutgers University Affiliated Hospitals followed by a 3 year tour with the United States Navy as a Flight Surgeon. Ivan Miller, MD, FACEP joined Richmond University Medical Center in September, 2007 as Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Miller previously served as the interim Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at St. Vincent’s Medical Center-Manhattan Division.

 

Dr Miller’s professional interests include emergency department performance improvement and patient safety and community outreach on a local, regional and international level. Dr Miller is a member of the Disaster Preparedness Committee of the Richmond County Medical Society. He lives in New York City with his wife, Micah Rafferty, and their six year-old daughter, Lila.

 

Dr Miller has been affiliated with Emergency Medical Associates (EMA) since 2002. He is a member of EMA’s Board of Directors, in addition to both the Audit Committee and the Practice Affairs Committee. Dr. Miller received his undergraduate degree at the University of Rochester, Rochester NY and his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, NY. He completed a combined residency in Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine at Long Island Jewish Medical Center and Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New Hyde Park, NY.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians as well as a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and a member of the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine, the American College of Physicians and the Academy of Emergency Medicine India. milleri@emamd.com

Ronald Nutovits, MD, FACEP is the Chairman of Emergency Services at Hudson Valley Hospital Center. He joined Emergency Medical Association of New York in 2004. Dr. Nutovits completed his Internal Medicine internship and residency at Montefiore Medical Center and his Emergency Medicine residency at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. He is board certified and a diplomate of both Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine. He was inducted as a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society and was recognized by the Consumer’s Research Council of America in 2006 as one of America’s Top Emergency Medicine Physicians. He was the Associate and Interim Director of the Weiler Emergency Department from 1998-2006. The department received the 2005 Press Ganey Compass Award recognizing health care facilities whose satisfaction scores have shown the greatest improvement over the past two years. Dr. Nutovits is an assistant professor at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and is a voting member of the Westchester Regional Emergency Medical Advisory Committee. The Hudson Valley Emergency Department and Hospital received the Press Ganey 2006 National Success Award for organizations that demonstrated leadership, overcame challenges, and implemented organizational change to successfully increase customer satisfaction. His areas of research and teaching interest include investigation of new diagnostic techniques and technologies that aid clinical diagnosis of emergency medicine.  nutovitsr@emamd.com
Joseph Ponticiello, MD, joined Emergency Medical Associates of New Jersey in 2005. Dr. Ponticiello previously served as a member of EMA’s Board of Directors. He is the Medical Director of the Emergency Department at Sound Shore Medical Center, New Rochelle, New York. He is a professional society member of the New York Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians. Dr. Ponticiello received his undergraduate degree at S.U.N.Y. Binghamton, Binghamton, NY, and his medical degree from Stony Brook, Stony Brook, NY. He completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, MI.
