Michael Silverman, MD, FACEP, Presents Poster at the 2003 American College of Emergency Physicians Annual Scientific AssemblyDate: November 12, 2003Emergency Medical Associates (EMA), Livingston, NJ - Michael Silverman, MD, FACEP, Attending Emergency Physician at Morristown Memorial Hospital, Morristown, NJ, presented a poster titled “Discussing the Incidence of Emesis in Pediatric Patients Receiving Oral Prelone: Can We Predict Those at Risk for Emesis?” at the 2003 American College of Emergency Physicians annual Scientific Assembly held in Boston, MA. The poster demonstrated the side effects of emesis with the use oral steroids. Oral steroids are used as part of the regimen to treat multiple diseases of the pediatric population in the Emergency Department, among those asthma and croup. The only factor which was found to have a significant difference between groups was that females had more emesis then males, otherwise, no factors were found which help predict emesis in patients receiving oral steroids. Dr. Silverman is active in the field of emergency medicine research. He is a member of Emergency Medical Associates and is actively involved in Fusion, EMA’s non-profit clinical research division.
