Kimball Medical Center Opens Phase One of a Four-Part $27 Million Dollar ED Expansion ProjectDate: November 5, 2002
Willam Dalsey, M.D., FACEP, Director of Emergency Medicine, Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood, NJ (left) and Mark Pilla, Executive Vice President of the Saint Barnabas Health Care System (right) Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood, NJ - Kimball Medical Center, an affiliate of the Saint Barnabas Health Care System, held an open house on October 30, 2002 to showcase Phase I of a four-part $27 million dollar expansion project. Phase I of the ED expansion added approximately 20,000 square feet to the hospital, including an expanded Psychiatric Emergency Screening Service Unit (PESS). Not only does Kimball Medical Center operate the largest PESS unit in the state, but it is the only screening center in New Jersey with specialized services for seniors. In addition, Kimball Medical Center will see over 1,000 children for PESS services in 2002. Phase II, which will include an outpatient pavilion, hospitality suite, healing garden on the roof and a chapel, will begin next week. Phase III, which will include a fast-track and Radiology Department is expected to be completed in July or August of 2003, and Phase IV, which will include upgrading the existing Emergency Department, is expected to be completed by December of 2003. Joanne Carrocino, Executive Director of Kimball Medical Center, told the capacity crowd that, “The expansion of the Emergency Department truly marks a redefining moment in emergency care for the community. Upon the completion of this project, Kimball Medical Center will be able to treat 60,000 patients a year.” Mark Pilla, Executive Vice President of Operations for the Saint Barnabas Health Care System, told all attendees that, “It is with great pride that I have watched Kimball Medical Center grow into one of the most remarkable health care facilities in the state of New Jersey. The extraordinary growth over the past several years is a testament to the high level of medical care being delivered in a compassionate setting.” William Dalsey, M.D., Director of the Emergency Department, told the audience that, “The expansion of the Emergency Department is a clear demonstration of Kimball Medical Center’s commitment to the residents of the community.” In addition, he told the capacity crowd that, “This expansion will enable Kimball Medical Center to address the urgent and emergent health care needs of the community well into the future.” Senator Robert W. Singer. R-Ocean County, a member of Kimball Medical Center’s Foundation and Board of Trustees presented Mark Pilla, Executive Vice President of Operations for the Saint Barnabas Health Care System, and Joanne Carrocino, Executive Director, with a resolution from the NJ Senate.
