EMA’s 2004 Advanced Emergency Medicine Conference A Huge Success

Everyone who attended the 2004 EMA Advanced Emergency Medicine Conference agrees that it was an unparalleled success. Close to 200 ED physicians, Associate Practitioners and ED nurses from around the tri-state area -- and the country -- attended the conference, which took place at the Borgata Hotel and Spa September 26, 2004 through September 29, 2004.

National thought-leaders in the field of Emergency Medicine, such as Emanuel Rivers, MD, FACEP; Judd Hollander, MD, FACEP; Russell Harris, MD, FACEP; Alfred Sacchetti, MD, FACEP and David Schreck, MD, FACEP lectured on the latest in treatment options for key disease states, such as Sepsis, Congestive Heart Failure, Stoke, Asthma and Pediatric Resuscitation.

In addition, EMA physicians such as Bruce Bonanno, MD, FACEP; Dennis Cochrane, MD, FACEP and Sol Nevins, MD, FACEP lectured on key topics including “Media Training for the ED & Acute Care Physician,” “Dermatological Puzzles in the ED,” and “Emergency Electrocardiography in Acute Care Medicine.”

Featured Two-Day Courses Included the Following:

The Society of Critical Care Medicine’s Fundamental Critical Care Support Course (FCCS), included David Schreck, MD, FACEP as the Course Director and Edgar Jiminez, MD, FCCM, former Past-President of the FCCS. Instructors for this course included Elaine Barry, NP; William Dalsey, MD, FACEP; John Fontanetta, MD, FACEP; Scott Larsen, MD, FACEP; Ian Leber, MD, FACEP; Ivan Miller, MD, FACEP; Joseph Testa, MD, FACEP.

The South Carolina College of Emergency Physicians presented their outstanding ED Ultrasound course. This course featured Lawrence Melincker, MD, FACEP and Sarah Stahmer, MD, FACEP as the Course Directors, and included some of the best and brightest talent including Costas Kaifas, MD, FACEP and Hetal Patel, MD, FACEP.

A new addition to this year’s conference included the LLSA Review Course.  This four (4) hour course designed and run by Mark Merlin, DO, FACEP and Richard Shih, MD FACEP, provided participants with a comprehensive evidence-based review of the articles pertaining to the 2004 test.  Look for both the 2004 and 2005 LLSA Review Course to be run at next year’s conference.  Challenge Courses for both ACSL and PALS were once again offered and will be on the slate for our 2005 Conference.

The featured Keynote lecturer was none other than John Brennan, MD, FACEP, National ACEP Board Member and Vice President of the Department of Emergency Medicine for the Saint Barnabas Health Care System.

If you’re wondering if you should make plans for this “must attend” conference in 2005, listen to what William Dalsey, Chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Kimball Medical Said about this year’s conference:

“The Advanced Emergency Medicine Conference provides one of, if not “the” best values in continuing medical education today for ED physicians, Associate Practitioners and nurses.  With national-caliber lecturers, a great selection of courses and a content-rich general session, you can’t beat the educational value of this conference. The Borgata’s commitment to customer service excellence and their state-of-the-art conference center only compliments this conference.”
