EMA invests in technology to support its physicians with an "ED-centric" electronic medial record  that helps us to address clinical protocols, compliance, and risk mitigation.  Each physician has the opportunity to tailor the system to his/her own clinical preferences.  The system interfaces with hospital information systems for ADT, lab, and x-ray data.  In addition, the documentation system can be coupled with a patient-flow management module, which helps physicians maintain control over events. Also, when appropriate, EMA employs non-clinical personnel in the ED specifically to assist physicians with charting.

EMA periodically instructs all of its patient care personnel regarding appropriate coding.  In order to provide an added safeguard for physicians, a large number of patient records are coding-reviewed prior to being initially billed. Also, EMA maintains an active compliance program encompassing both financial and patient care activities, in accordance with the OIG’s model compliance plans. These tools have enabled EMA to build an impressive record in achieving appropriate reimbursement and patient satisfaction.
