Management Team - Department Directors and Managers

Eric Bachenheimer, Director of Client Account Services joined EMA in 2004. He is the Director of Client Solutions and is responsible for the provision of services in several areas, including but not limited to, the achievement of operational efficiencies, process redesign, patient satisfaction, and regulatory compliance.

Prior to joining EMA, he was the Administrative Director of the Emergency Department at NYU Medical Center in New York City, NY. He has held several other hospital operational and financial positions, working at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City as well as Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois.

He received a Master of Health Services Administration degree from the University of Michigan and a Master of Business Administration degree from the Stern School of Business at New York University. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Eric is also a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives, and received the 2004 Young Healthcare Executive Award for the Big Apple Region. He was also awarded the 2005 Best Case Study Award from the ACHE as well. Elaine Barry, Director of Nursing Informatics joined Alpha Physician Resources in 1988 as a consultant to develop the Clinical Information Manager Program. This program provides charting scribes for Emergency Department physicians. Elaine became a full time member of the Alpha team in April 1999 as Director of the Clinical Information Manager Program and has also been a client account manager for several sites responsible for (i). ensuring contractual agreements for providing emergency department physicians were met. (ii). providing on site support to hospital administration and Emergency Department leadership including compliance with JCAHO, EMTALA and New York/ New Jersey State regulations.

Currently Ms. Barry serves as the Director of IT Clinical Client relations for EDIM, LLC. Elaine is responsible for directing clinical policy and compliance initiatives as well as efforts to maximize the adoption of EDIM software in the ED environment. Elaine has a clinical operations background, with experience in ED process optimization, and extensive domain knowledge that will continue to strongly influence the evolution of our EDIM product.

Prior to joining Alpha, EMA and EDIMS, Ms. Barry worked as a Registered Nurse. She has an extensive 25 years of clinical experience including pediatrics, critical care, medical surgical, emergency department and 18 years as a mobile intensive care nurse and was certified as a National Registry paramedic while working in the pre-hospital setting. Elaine maintains her clinical skills as an Advanced Practice nurse in the Emergency Department at Somerset Medical Center, Somerville New Jersey.

Ms. Barry earned a Bachelors degree in Nursing from Seton Hall University, South Orange, New Jersey. A Masters degree in Nursing Administration from Seton Hall and a post Master's degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Rutgers University, Newark, NJ. Beth Gehring, Manager of Human Resources and Recruiting joined EMA in September 2001 and is responsible for Human Resources and Recruitment for EMA and all affiliated companies.

Beth brings over 12 years of employment and Emergency Medicine recruiting experience to EMA, previously serving as an Employment Coordinator for Kaiser Permanente Mid-Atlantic Region and a Recruiter for EmCare.

She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Fitness from Russell Sage College and a Master’s in Exercise Physiology from Long Island University, and is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SRHM). gehringb@alpha-apr.com
Debbie Harris, Director of Marketing and Sales joined EMA in 2006 and is responsible for new business development for the company’s Emergency Department physician practice management services. She works closely with potential new clients to identify the appropriate structure, services, systems and support needed by each hospital community to transform their ED into a “Center of Excellence”.

Debbie brings over 14 years of sales and marketing healthcare leadership experience to EMA, previously serving as Vice President of New Business Development for Sterling Healthcare and United Emergency Services. Additionally, she has extensive experience in orchestrating successful marketing campaigns for consumer products within the sports marketing/candy and tobacco industries.

She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Education from the University of North Carolina – Greensboro, and is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association. harrisd@alpha-apr.com
Jonathan Rothman, MBA, Director of Data Management joined EMA in 1998. Mr. Rothman has spent his entire career working in the health care field since graduating from Temple University with an MBA in Risk Management in 1991. His core competencies include CPM, BPM and Dashboards, Business Intelligence, Data Management, Complete Data Warehousing Development Cycle, Data Modeling, ETL, Project Management, Business System Development, Health Care Reporting, Financial Reporting, Physician Practice Management and Billing Operations, Hospital Billing Operations and Physician EMR development.

Over the last seven years, Jonathan has been the primary architect for EMA's data management (DM) and business intelligence (BI) strategies and the developer and manager of the Emergency Medicine Analysis and Reporting System (WEBMARS™) data warehouse project, which houses clinical, operational, financial and satisfaction data for over 8 million emergency department (ED) patient encounters. Mr. Rothman has successfully evolved EMA’s DM & BI infrastructure from generalized metric reporting to web based EPM. He has been quoted about his experiences developing DM & BI infrastructure in a health care environment by numerous national publications including DMReview, InfoWorld, Computerworld.com, eWeek, Nursezone.com, Infoweek, Intelligent Enterprise & Healthcare Informatics. Most recently Jonathan received the Business Objects 2005 BI Visionary Award and was a 2005 finalist - Intelligent Enterprise Award for Innovation in BI.

Scott Serbin, Director of Education and Research joined EMA in 2000 and is responsible for the development of both internal and external provider education programs, including the highly successful “Advanced Emergency and Acute Care Medicine and Technology Conference.”

He works with EMA client hospitals to develop and support emergency department-specific service line objectives, and hospital marketing, public relations and community outreach initiatives. Additionally, he works with pharmaceutical and medical device companies in the areas of product acceleration and strategic positioning.

Scott brings over 15 years of multi-faceted health care experience to EMA, including expertise in physician group management, emergency department marketing and sales, and managed care. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from East Stroudsburg University-East Stroudsburg, PA and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications from William Paterson University-Wayne, NJ. Additionally, he has strong experience in the areas of electronic and print journalism, adult education and purchasing. serbins@alpha-apr.com
